To work as a classroom TA we require a minimum of 6 months experience (in the last 5 years) supporting children in a childcare environment. Preferably you should hold GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths, but we are able to register you without these qualifications. Please note, this may restrict you as many schools require these as a minimum standard. You do not need to have any formal qualifications to work as a TA but there are a number of nationally recognised qualifications for teaching assistants that are available. Contact you local college for details.
Anyone that wants to work in schools must complete an extremely thorough and rigorous background checking process. On average it takes around 2-3 weeks to be cleared to work, but this does depend on the DBS check, references and any other checks that will need to be completed.
